Here at Mountainview Mastiffs, we believe that the stud dog is a very important part of a breeding program and we are very selective about which dog gets bred to which girl.
When selecting a stud we need to realize that we are building a foundation,a base, we only want good , dominant genes, so we breed bitches to dogs that carry the same gene of characteristics, not every dog passes on the same genes, so you may have to look at several generations of this dog to see what the gene is that you want to bring into your breeding program, just because one dog may pass along good qualities his brother may not, so it is best to use a dog that is proven so you can see what he is going to add into your program. We wait for our dogs to mature into adults before we consider them, a young puppy may not turn into the dog you think he will, we watch them carefully to see if they will possess the positive genes that we want to carry into our line, this takes time and patience.
If you line breed on certain bloodlines, you will establish a type and be token, by breeding back to the same bloodlines, you are also perpetuating the same faults which are bound to crop up in each generation.
Many people think that a dog because he is AKC registered, and even that he is a champion he is a stud dog, not true, a stud dog is a dog that produces beter than himself.
Please take a look at my boys and enjoy
